ashiatsu

A contemporary Western approach to ancient foot pressure techniques, Ashiatsu consists of slow, deep compressions and myofascial stretches applied with the therapist’s feet to deliver a uniquely deep massage.

With the receiver lying on a comfortable padded floor mat, the therapist positions herself above and uses overhead bars as support to safely modulate the amount of pressure used.

Ashiatsu sessions begin with the receiver lying face down, with the first portion of the session focusing on the back of the body. The receiver then turns over to lie face up and the session continues with attention to the front of the body.

The receiver is unclothed and appropriately draped as with full-body massage sessions. Minimal lubrication is used on the body.

Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes in length. (Kelley)
