Thai Massage… A Dynamic, Interactive Form of Massage

Thai Massage
Thai Massage

With its origins in Ayurvedic medicine, yoga, and Buddhism, Thai Massage is sometimes compared to a meditative dance, in which the receiver is guided by the therapist into various relaxed stretches that often resemble yoga postures.

The practitioner uses her hands, feet, arms and legs to apply rhythmic compressions to relax the muscles, open the joints, and allow the receiver to more easily move into the stretches.

In keeping with the belief that Thai Massage is the “physical application of loving kindness,” the therapist begins each session with a brief, silent meditation.

Thai Massage sessions take place on a comfortably padded floor mat. Both giver and receiver are barefoot and clothed in loosely fitted clothing. No oil or lubricant is used.

Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes in length. (Lloyd, Kelley)
